Nutritional facts about kale

Kale is considered as a king of green veggies, but it doesn’t mean it’s best for your chinchilla too.

Kale belongs to the cabbage family and comes in two forms, one with smooth leaves and the other with curly and crackly leaves.

A well-balanced diet of chinchilla comprises approximately 15% protein, 35% carbohydrates, 4% sugar, 30% fiber and 3.5% fat maximum.

Considering the nutritional fact of kale, it consists of a lot of calcium content, a bit of phosphorous and acidic content.

And, such nutritional content is definitely not good for your chinchilla.

Why can’t chinchillas eat kale regularly?

Chinchillas bodies cannot process foods that are high in sugar and acidic content.

If kale is given in moderate amount as a treat to them, nothing will happen.

But, if kale is given in larger amount on a regular basis, it will accumulate more acidic content in their body that is not healthy for them and will ultimately lead to sickness, serious health problems, stomach issues or even bloating.

A moderate amount of kale

You can feed your chinchilla with kale but only in a reasonable amount.

A well-balanced diet, including kale, will not harm your chinchilla.

In fact, he would enjoy the little treats now and then and form good bonding with its owner.

Also, make sure to cut the kale in the smallest pieces before giving to chinchilla, so it becomes easy to eat for them.

And, if you feel your chinchilla is unwell for any reason, don’t feed them with any vegetable or fruit that is high in sugar or acidic content.
